Dear FLE 324 Section 03 members,
Please evaluate your own performance as a pair/group by referring to each of the aspects the self-evaluation sheet that your instructor has provided for you. You need to make comments on the preparation stage and the actual teaching stage and the audience's perceptions of your presentation.
While preparing our presentation, firstly we decided on the topic. We agreed on have got/ has got as our grammar subject. And we chose body parts as vocabulary part. And then we chose appropriate pictures for our learners' level and age. Because we thought that visual aids are important to make the knowledge much more permanent. We tried to use authentic materials to make the lesson much more attractive for the young learners. And also we used colorful pictures and funny characters to make the lesson much more enjoyable. While teaching the topic both İlknur and I were smiling and we tried to be helpful and friendly teachers. The activities and the instructions were suitable for the proficiency level of our intended students. But there was a mistake about the warm-up activity. While doing warm-up activity we mentioned what we will teach in the lesson.Actually, it is not appropriate to express the topic before teaching it. So it was our mistake. Out of this mistake our presentation was good. And audiences also liked our presentation. Only, some of them criticized about this mistake.
ReplyDeleteBurcu, Emel and I had task-based learning as the assignment. While preparing our presentation, we wanted to come up with an idea which will not bore the students, so they can actually have fun while learning something so preparing a school newspaper seemed to be a good idea for us. We decided to use authentic and colorful materials, as well. We planned to introduce the newspaper parts and ask our students to prepare one. Our language focus was vocabulary items from the article we distributed at the end of the lesson. Emel did the lead-in part by showing a copy of "La Gazetta Dello Sport" and i think this attracted attention. She also gave some information about the history of that newspaper. Burcu introduced the parts of a newspaper through a Prezi presentation, which was also attractive to students. Then i gave the assignment but since there was time limitation we couldn't do any of what we intended to do and i guess it got confusing through the end. For the last part, the students made groups of 5 and the vocabulary items were written on the board and we asked them to summarize the article in their own words since a newspaper has its own jargon. The only shortcoming of the presentation would be the transitions. I think i could make them smoother. And also time was a big limit for us. But overall i think we did a good job.
ReplyDeleteI, F. Özge and Ceren presented the lesson plan.
ReplyDeletewhile preparing our presentation, firstly we decided on what to teach and we decided to teach too/enough. later we agreed on the level of the students as pre-intermediate. they are preparing for sbs exam. and we planned the activities with regarding this detail. Then, we prepared the activities, we use colurful pictures to attract students' attention. We prepared ppts for the lead in part to attract students's attention and to make them induce the intended grammar structure themselves. we want to use eliciting technique to enable acquisition. For the grammar teaching part, we prepared colourful sheets and provided a detailed explanation of the structure and gave an example sentences for each structure. We prepared fil in the banks activities and rewrite part for students. they would read the first sentence constructed with either too or enough and rewrite this sentence with using the other one( too or enough) we collected the questions that were asked before in the sbs exam about too and enough structure.
During the presentation, Ceren started with the lead in part and tried to elicit the intended structure from the student with using a dialogue. It was succesful and it took many good comments because starting the lesson with such kind of a inductive activity was quite logical.
after that, I went on with the grammar teaching. I provided the explanation of the structures and an example sentences for each. I tried to give examples from the classroom to make students associate the new items to their own life and learn it better.
Then, Özge went on with the fill in the blanks activities.
in general, there was no problem related to the lesson plan and the presentation of it. we received good comments.
but because of the time limitation, we could not present the whole lesson plan. If we could manage to do this, we could receive much better comments.
maybe during the lecture time, we could want students to construct sentences. in this way, it would be more effective.
apart from this, we were very succesful

We prepared our presentation with I,Sevda,Büşra and Züleyha. the presenters are I and Sevda. While preparing our presentation, we decided on the topic firstly. We choose our student profile as teenagers and we choose a topic which is suitable for them. We focused on a love letter which emphasized gerunds and infinitives. We tried to approach the students kindly I hope we achieved it. Actually we did not want to give a formula for the grammar point. We just started to make examples. However, we take criticsm on not explaining the rules for the gerunds and infinitives. I partially agree on this, our lesson seemed like a revison lesson. I think our presentation is generally good.

ReplyDeleteI prepared our grammar presentation with Elif (Kılıç). I think the lesson plan was good but the problem is that we couldn't follow it during the presentation because of time management. We had to shorten some activities and also the grammar instruction part. Therefore in classroom, we were always in a rush. Time limitation was a great difficulty so we couldn't apply our activities as in a real classroom. I think our warm-up part was very good and we managed the class well. However, one problem is that we may focus on more production oriented activities like role-plays, or interactive activities. Because our presentation is the first presentation in semester, we couldn't take our friends' presentations as feedback so this problem emerged. The instruction part and was good but focus on form part could be extended in a real classroom situation. I kept it short in the presentation because of time limitation as well. Our activities were able to motivate the students for example every group tried to complete the puzzle and they made great effort on it. During the lesson we only taught passives in simple present tense so that students couldn't be confused with an information bombardment. We provided some key words at first then wanted students to guess the topic in the text. This led them think critically and took their attention. They had very good ideas. Then they read the text and realized the passive forms. After this part, grammar instruction part came. With the help of reading passage we made them be exposed to more input. To sum up, it was a good lesson, we enjoyed it and I hope our friends did as well.
I was very lucy beause I had a Span'sh speaking group mate. Therefore it was not that difficult for us to write an impressive lesson plan with a methodology in fact associated by nativist approach and cognitivist grammar teaching activities in practice. Because of time limitations we could not do all of the activities at once. I think the matching activity fit to the students proficiency of the target language. Also it was found enjoyable because they learnt frm the activity as well as they learn from each other with the teacher's guideness. Maybe our presentatin was also good in terms of demonstrating how to handle two teachers in a room consisting at least 25 students.

ReplyDeleteFor our presentation, we prepared our lesson plan, materials and hardcopies together with my all group friends(I, Buket, Songül,Kübra) and I and Buket presented it in class. Fistly, we decided on the presentation subject as has/has got (possessive)and we thought that we must prepare very visual, encouraging and authentic materials to be able to make all class participate in the activities. Our students' level was elementary so we prepared our materials and activities regarding that. We prepared firstly a teaching material for the subject, then a fill-in-the-blanks exercise in which we used a boy's bedroom and his staff in the room with some sentences to be filled by using has/has got and then a powerpoint presentation about some girls and their bags. In the presentation part, the bags were open and the students could see inside them so we tried to make a speaking activity by asking students what kind of staff there were in the bags. I think the most enjoyable part of our presentation was that last part. The students seemed to be enjoying the lesson and the activity very much. But there was one more group using our presentation topic (have/has got) and they presented it before us so the students may have felt bored because of that. Apart from that, I think our presentation was very enjoyable and creative to be used in a real classroom environment. My friend and I tried to behave in a very friendly way towards our students during the lesson and I think we managed to make our students feel very relaxed and enthusiastic about the lesson and activities.
ReplyDeleteWe have prepared a task based lesson plan for the assignment. We think that to organize a school newspaper would be interesting for the class and decided to use this idea in our lesson plan. We tried to draw the attention of the class by showing them a "pink newspaper" in the lead-in part and then by the help of the instructions made them prepare their own school newspaper. Of course all of our group members have made many micro teachings in class but I don't know why I was more relaxed in this presentation. Frankly, I found myself more enthusiastic than I thought, as a teacher.I noticed my progress in speaking English in front of an audience but I also recognized that I have still a way to go. My group friends were very brilliant either in their pronunciations or class management skills. I think it was a well done job for us and I hope it has been interesting and entertaining for the class also. We are criticized for the task we had given to the groups being a bit difficult but I think the students in the advanced level can easily deal with it. But I assume that our classmates critics were sourced from the time restriction, which made us to squeeze all the lesson in 10 minutes. For short it was a very good experience for us. And I want to add that the recordings of the teachings is a very useful practice for us. By this way, we have an oppurtunity to watch ourselves and make self-criticism.
ReplyDeleteWe prepared a lesson plan based on grammar teaching. Firstly, we tried to decide on grammar topic and we chose 'Have/Has Got'. Our lesson plan consisted of presentation, practice and production. Firstly, we lectured the topic, we asked the students to form example sentences and we tried to make the students active during the lesson altough our lesson type was teacher oriented. Our presentation was a type of summary because we thought that this grammar topic had been lectured last week. So we passed activity and production quickly. Our activities were a little bit different from each other. We couldn't make a good connection and transition among activities. But in our activities, we used authentic materials and it was good for young learners. I think that we could manage to provide students' participation and our lesson plan accomplished its target.
ReplyDeleteWe, Melek, Zohregul, Sulgun and I, had to prepare task based lesson plan for the assignment. I have to admit that it was a hard job to do because although we knew the basics behind structuring the lesson, we could not select the relevant idea to make the lesson. From our experience we decided to focus on stories. The one that captured our attention was The Three Bears- the story that is frequently used in FLT due to its easy and clearly understood message and its recognition by the students. We thought that the students should first learn some vocabulary to understand the meaning better. We tried to engage our students in different forms of activities – we employed a variety of group, pair and individual work. We were going to read the text by ourselves but we were lucky to find a video in which a speaker reads with showing the entire text. By using this video recording we became more flexible in terms of monitoring the activities and our students. During the listening part students have to do some activities such as filling in the blank or taking notes. In practice phase we made use of creative writing technique that could contribute to students’ creative development. Particularly the greatest shortcoming of our presentation was the selection of the topic as it was too popular in our class. In summary, our lesson had characteristics of revision and summary for past and present simple topics. Moreover we believe that the lesson could contrıbute to the develıopment of essentual lıstenıng and wrıtıng skills of our students as well as their participation.

ReplyDeleteGülşen and Fikret prepared grammer presentation. Mesude and me were responsible for task-based lesson. When we first were taugth how task based lesson was done, I couldnt be able to understand it at all. I surfed the net to see some sample task-based plans and learn what task-based lesson was indeed, but it didn't help at all. I hadn't the foggiest idea till I saw my friends' demos. And Mesude came with a brillant idea. However, it was really dissapointing that we couldn't be able to make our presenatation but summarize it because we didn't have any time left. Our topic was well-chosen and a good connection to the topic was made with the warm-up section. Our level was intermediate, which was proper for the activites. We couldn't do them but there was smooth transition among our activities. However, as we got in our pre-demo feedback, our instructor said us to add a grammar activity not to miss the language focus part. Apart from that it was succesful, I believe. I learned more about how to prepare an effective lesson plan. Even though, we couldnt have the chance to present it to our friends, I think our lesson plan would have been effective in practice as much as it's seen if we hade done our demo. All in all, it was really informative for us, we learned a lot while preparing it. Thanks to those who waited patiently for us to summarize our lesson plan.

as merve said, we prepare our presentation with ceren. Merve told you the steps in a good way. I do not want to tell this all again. So I want to explain how useful our presentation and lesson plan to us, what kind of difficulties we experience, which part of the lesson was most successful to us and our friends, what aids we used, and in which ways we can develop ourselves.
ReplyDeletefirst of all, finding the appropriate materials for student level is one of the difficult parts in the lesson planning. Because we do not accustomed to these kinds of things now. I hope we will be expert after we graduate and started to make real lesson plans and teach them to our real students. the second difficulty is telling the lesson to people who already know it. Because we cannot illustrate the real reaction of students to our teaching in this way. I think our lesson plain was suitable for the level and our activities are also attract students' attention. I personally can say that that, in some parts, because of my anxiety, I forgot to provide my students feedback. I hope in real teaching experiences, I will not do it.
In first part, we try to attract the students attention with raising their curiosity and I think we can do that with our pictures and questions. Then Ceren read the text to students to provide them with the correct pronunciation. I think this sould be done in all lessons. Because if students do not listen the appropriate form, they can use it inappropriately and it can be fossilized. then Merve teach the grammar parti she use real life examples for attracting the students attention more and this is useful again. And in last part, I want tehm to make fill in the blanks acitivity. I wrote the correct answers to board to provide students to see the correct forms and then I read them for again providing them to listen the correct forms again. With fill in the blanks activity and the other activities we try to ensure that all students understood the lesson. We canoot do the all activities because of the time limitation but I think students would enjoy if we could do the other activities.
all in all, we tried to do our best for this lesson plan and presentation and we can learn a lot from this experience. I hope my friens could enjoy, too.

Kübra and I prepared a task based lesson plan for the assignment. the hardest part of the preparation was deciding on the topic that we would use in our lesson. ıt was very hard job to do because we had to consider many things like the level of students and an attractive topic. after brainstorming and searching for sometime we decided to focus on stories as we though that learners will be able to concentrate on a story easily and the topic will attract them. while we wre searching for stories we came across with one of the most common stories of ELT courses, The Three Bears. We thought that the students should first learn some vocabulary to understand the meaning better.so, we gave them a vocabulary matching activity including pictures. after the vocabulary activity we showed a video telling and acting our story in a song format.we thought that it will be more enjoyable than reading the story in class.also with the help of the video it would be easier to monitor the students and the activities for the teacher. During the listening part students have to do our note taking activity by the help of organized worksheets.after this activity we want the students write their own short stories by depending on our main story. by making this activity we aimed to increase their creativity. the most interesting and dissappointing side of our presentation was that the topic was so common that three groups chose the same topic with us. ın general, our lesson was like a revision and summary for past and present simple tenses. also it was also help our students to develop their lıstenıng, wrıtıng, angd pronunciation.
ReplyDeleteElif KILIÇ
ReplyDeleteWe prepared our lesson with our group members Fatma Kaya, Salih Osoydan and Ozan Özen; I and Fatma were the presenters. We tried to prepare an enjoyable lesson because we wanted our students to learn wh,le enjoying the lesson. Our topic was passive forms but we covered only past tense form; otherwise, it will be very difficult both for us, as teachers, and our students because the students would get bored and most aspects of the topic would not be learned by the students. We gave a few related vobulary in lead- in part and tried to attract the students' attention so that they would be motivated for the lesson. I think it was successful. Also we also paid attention to present the grammar topic not in a strict and boring way; our teacher Fatma was very enthusiastic during grammar expanation part and the students learned easily. We wanted to include as many intelligences as possible; however, because of the time limitation, we could not give place to role play or other kinesthetic intelligence activities in our lesson. We compensated this by including various activities. At the end of the presentation, I have had a great experience on teaching and I had a good time; I hapo my friend also have enjoyed themselves.

ReplyDeleteOur group prepared a grammar lesson for young learners at a private school. The topic which we chose was 'CAN'. First of all, the reason why we chose this topic is that we can find lots of appropriate activities at the level of young learners. We made use of a web site designed by 'British Council' for the young learners. We found a song in the web site. The song consisted of sentences which were formed with 'can' and the song was sung by a panda. This was an interesting and enjoyable activity for kids. Apart from that, we prepared a power point presentation which shows some cartoon characters' abilities and disabilities. These are helpful for young learners to learn inductively. Our instructor was Alp. He was really good at being a teacher. He maks the student do activities willingly, makes the lesson as enjoyable as he can.
ReplyDeleteWe taught if clause type two. We tried to make the lesson enjoyable for us and students. The level of the students was elementary and we tied to make appropriate exercises for their level. I made students do an activity which included uncompleted sentences such as ‘if I were president, I would ….’ I wanted from the students to complete sentences according to themselves. I think it was a useful activity for the students. The students enjoyed while doing activity. Then I found a song whose name is ‘if I were a rich man’. There were a fill in the blanks activity for the song but because of time limitation, I would not be able to do activity in the class. I think activities were appropriate for the students.
ReplyDeletewe prepared a lesson plan according to high school students. we preferred famous people as our topic because in general high school students are interested in them. our grammar topic was comparatives and superlatives. so we compared the famous people. it really worked. we have prepared the power point presentation with a lot of visuals and we thought that it can attract students attention. we gave chance to every student in order to participate in the lesson. we asked them to write 5 sentence as an example. it could help them to make the things more clear and more permanent in their mind. we think that our lesson was attractive and beneficial for our learners.
ReplyDeleteWe wanted to choose another language while preparing our presentation. Our primary aim was to create a real learning environment in the classroom. What we don’t have in the classroom is real students. We prepare efficient lesson plans and everything goes well and goes according to our plans. We don’t have any difficulty because our learners are “advanced” learners. As candidate teachers we try to guess where the students can possibly have difficulty, which mistakes can we be doing while teaching. And I can say that over years we are becoming more and more successful in this. However what we try to do in the class was to make this experience real. The classroom did not know Spanish and they were literally pure beginners. Living this experience and maybe the anxiety of learning a new language (because this is what students are exposed to in classrooms, emotional factors like stress is also present in learning environment), they could criticize the lesson better. And by evaluating the student success in doing the activities we could also evaluate ourselves whether or not the teaching was successful. We decided to use Spanish as the medium of instruction. Because comprehensible input both motivates the students and facilitates the learning. At the beginning we wanted to implement an inductive way of teaching. It was possible to teach chunks such as what is your name without teaching it but by first introducing yourself in Spanish and asking their names in Spanish and wait for the answer. If they can’t understand we have the advantage of being two teachers I could ask Gökhan and he could answer it and we can be role models. However it was hard to teach irregular verbs without explaining them first in such a short time. However what I would prefer is making the students acquainted with the irregularities in reading texts and teaching them subconsciously then explaining them the rules. The point which is criticized in the classroom was that the use of visuals. And thinking the level of the students, visuals are important. And the game with verbs was a little complicated. So I needed to re-explain the instructions while I was checking the groups. As beginners the instructions should be simpler.
ReplyDeleteour group members were gökhan, nuriye ,sedef and me. our biggest aim was to create a real classroom environment. we wanted to have real students and a real atmosphere. students who do not know the language and their feelings and needs were our torch during the lesson plan preparing stage. ın the preparation stage, you want everything to conduct smoothly and greatly. but that is not the way how real classrooms run. while presenting our lecture, we encountered with some problems that we anticipated. and this proves that we reached our goal during the lecture.
ReplyDeletemaybe teachers could have speak more slowly and clearly but apart from this, this lecture presentation was appealing to our group's aims.
We prepared our presentation with I,Neslihan,Büşra and Züleyha. the presenters are I and Neslihan.
ReplyDeletewe prepared a lesson plan for the high school students. we decided to choose comparatives and superlatives as a grammar topic. to be more specific we have chosen to compare famous people because students in their level are more interested in celebrities. it worked well. we have prepared the power point presentation to have visuality and reality and we thought that it can attract students attention. even if we have very limited time we managed to give chance to every student to speak and participate in the lesson. we asked them to write 5 sentence as an example to make the topic more clear and more permanent in their mind. it was good enough and of course we had many limitations in our lesson plan but I think by the passing time we will improve ourselves.
ReplyDeleteOur group members were I, Alp, Elif, Mert Can and Hayal. We prepared a grammar lesson for young learners at private schools. Our teacher was Alp. Our subject of the grammar lesson is models, "can". We intentionally chose this subject because young learners likes talkig about themselves. So, we thought that the topic will be appropriate as it is used to talk about abilities. We found a video clip in which a panda sings a song by using "can" in British Council website. We used that video clip because children really like songs and cartoons. Then we prepared a PPT in which there are some animals which use can. Children also like them and it gave enthusiasm to students. Alp was warm blooded and get intimate to students while teaching. I think that was an advantage while teaching to young learners.
ReplyDeleteI did not present the grammar lesson. Other group members except Emine did the presentation. I am glad about our presentation. The level of the students were elementary. There were various activies for students tyo practice the new grammar structure. I liked the attitudes of my group members. Hanım tried to make students interactive. She said the names of the students who were not willing to attend. Powerpoint presentation at the beginning of the lesson was useful for students to remember what they did last week and to present new grammar structure.
ReplyDeleteWhile we are preapering our lesson plan, the first thing we did was to choose the age and the level of students. We preferred young learners. Then, we tried to decide on the topic. " Can for ability" was a good choice because it was easy to learn for young learners. Also we bear in mind that young children like talking about their abilities especially among their friends. We found a video and use it after warm-up. It was really nice. Students would like it. During the lesson, I tried to be energetic. I walked around the classroom to keep the students in the action zone. Our activities were suitable for young learners and the pictures in the activities were helpful. Sometimes, I miused the language, but we tried to keep my language smooth and understanable for students. At the end of the class, I noticed that we did a good job, because students liked the lesson. I used the board to show the simple grammatical rules. In most of the time, we were active and this affected the participation of students to lesson in a good way.
ReplyDeleteWe prepared our lesson plan all together and it was a revision class. We decided to do it so because we thought that we didn't have the enough time to explain gerunds and infinitives, Neslihan and Sevda were the presenters, their instructions were clear enough and the students could get the main points, our presenters were always smiling during the lesson and they were eager to help. Altough it was a revision class, students could get the basic points of the topic. I think it was a successful lesson plan, I hope everyone liked it.

ReplyDeleteMy group mates were Şerafettin, Alp, Elif and Hayal. We prepared the lesson for young learners in a private school. We choosed the topic "can". We choosed it because it was appropriate for the age group. Besides, there were many visual-auditory objects and activies we can use for the lesson. Transition between the activities were smooth. Alp did a great job as an istructor. I keep the materails for my career.
ReplyDeleteMerve Önder, Özge Maviş and I prepared and presented togeter. The preparation phase was not so time consuming and actually it was fun. After we decided on our topic, it was easy to find pictures. We especially put emphasis on the warm up session as it is important to take the students' attention.
ReplyDeleteDuring the presentation, I think our lesson was successful enough although we had some aspects to improve. There were some grammar mistakes in the dialogue and we needed to check the dialogue carefully before coming to the class. I also believe that we didn't use the board effectively.
We were successful at taking the attention of the students by using pictures. In addition, Merve explained the grammar topic clearly and Özge reinforced the new input with an effective exercise.
Rabia, Begüm and I prepared lesson together. Our garmmar topic was type 2. Begüm first used powerpoint presentation for introduction to the lesoon then I did an exercise. ı think the exercises were appropriate for students' level. rabia did an exercise which needs free production. ıt was good for the students own production. at the end of the lesson we listened a song which includes type 2 I tink we could use the song at the beginning of the lesson it could become more meaningful. Genarally the lesoon was fun for us.
ReplyDeletefikret and me prepared the lesson plan and presented it in the class.we thought through the level and activities considering the being enjoyable and informative at the same time.we chose "to be good at doing something" topic because students may talk about it. I believe everyone is good at doing something. also such topics in class may encourage students to realize themselves as they are trying to say something.fikret presented the grammar teaching part and I made the activity part. as we are 3rd year students we do not have stage fright anymore so we were relax and natural at the stage.
ReplyDeleteEbru and Buket have presented the lesson. The teacher teaches grammar in a quite enjoyable way and asks students the use the new learnt structure in sentences. Then she asks them to describe the picture of a room and some women’s bag by using the structures have/has got. The teacher provides quite a lot of practice in both oral language and written language, which is one of the successful aspects of the lesson. If there were real bags, some other stuff to describe or a guessing activity, students’ participation would be higher. Finally the presenters’ language use, their friendly approach and the lesson were very enjoyable and effective.

We prepared our presentation with my group members(Neslihan, Sevda, Büsra). the presenters were Neslihan and Sevda. While preparing our presentation, we decided on the topic firstly. Our student profile was teenagers and we choose the topic which we thougt as suitable for them. We focused on a love letter which emphasized gerunds and infinitives. Neslihan and Sevda tried to be kind and lovely by approaching, and I think they managed it very well. The only weak point of them was that they did not explain the grammer rule at the beginning. All in all, it was a good lesson.
ReplyDeleteWe decided to teach 'if clause type 2' and we tried to make the lesson both efficient and enjoyable for us and students. The level of the students was elementary and we tied to make appropriate exercises for their level.
ReplyDeleteAs for my part, I taught the students if clause thype 2 by using a powerpoint presentation. The PPP was very njoying actually but included too many slides. That was the drawback. In addition, I slipped over some of them because we were in short of time and didnt do much to give students also chance. If it was a real clasroom athmosphere, of course it would be more efficient because when teaching to your own friends who already know the topic, even u can get bored.. :))
